Exporting to China
In the bird’s nest industry, exporting to China, world largest bird’s nest consume market is the main activity for this industry to increase the sales. In Malaysia, consumption of bird’s nest is still in preliminary stage owning to perception of consumers. Hence, every bird’s nest company is trying hard to get the legally approved Malaysian bird’s nest processing enterprise by registering with the People’s Republic of China and get the certification. My objective of this week was assisting in packing of bird’s nest for export purpose and learned the accounting that main for exporting.
We needed to send 1 big box of cup size nest with
total amount of 80 kg to Ningbo, China. First and foremost, we got a big pellet
from the store. According to Mr Chris, the factory supervisor told me that the
pellet the company selected was the smallest pellet that could easily go
through Kastam and it was with cheapest charge. Hence, we started to put the
boxes that packed well by the factory’s workers one by one into the pellet.
Each of the boxes was 5 kg of cup size nest. Besides, sponges were put around
each box to protect from broken. Stickers such as veterinarian cert, bird house
registration number, bar code that tracked the bird’s nest were glued on the
box.

Chris
guided me step by step in the packing of the bird’s nest into the pellet.
Collaboration of us in packing worked well and we had done it in few hours.
Next, we helped the FedEx workers to move the box into the van. With the signing
of some invoice, all of the packing process and delivered had done.
The
accounting record for the export was interesting for me because it was the new
field for me. My supervisor, Pooi Yoke taught me for the issuing of invoice to
the company in China and recorded all expenses required to export. Insurance,
freight, packing and charges for Kastam were all compulsory cost for
accounting.
Conclusion
In
short, I had learned the packing procedure in exporting which might be
essential for me in the future when I needed to do exporting. Moreover, I got
to know the detail of packing such as the size of pellet should be used in
order to be easily changed to the other flight when transportation and ensure
lower flight cost to be charged. Learning of issuing invoice to the company in
China was interesting for me. It was because the invoice all compulsory to be
stated in Chinese. Besides, insurance referred to the kg of bird’s nest, flight
cost were all those important expenses which I should take note. I would need
to record it into the account for expenses in export. Accounting in term of
exporting and the terms that used by exporting was definitely one of the most
important part that I learned that enhanced my accounting career.
