5th WEEK (26/1/15 - 30/1/15)

26/1/15 - 30/1/15

Sales Experiences in the Kiosk

After I exposed myself in the bird’s nest desserts and juices, something came up to my mind. I tried to ask Tim, managing director for the permission to be the sales assistant in the outlet since Chinese New Year was around the corner. Owning to the busy season in the kiosk, I was sent to Empire Sunshine Nest kiosk to help out for a week. My objective to stay in the kiosk was assisting the outlet manager, master the inventories control and got the exposure of bird's nest selling in dessert and juices form. It was my new experiences in the kiosk as I exposed to the control system of inventories and the skill in sales. Ms Rose was the manager of the kiosk and she guided me on everything related on taking care of a kiosk. The breadth of knowledge of Ms Rose about bird’s nest really amazed me.

In the kiosk, every transaction of business we would need to issue receipts to the customers and it acted as inventories control and total cash on hand was calculated throughout the control process. Furthermore, I helped Ms Rose designed the promotion poster that required by headquarter. I was making huge value for her because she did not know about the Photoshop software that needed to take long time to master. I taught her some easy editing skills by using Photoshop. Our cooperation on the poster editing was a big success.

Moreover, I realized that the desserts and juices were something new in the market which able to attract a lot of attention from the customers. 60% of the people passed by our kiosk would stop down and had a looked. Hence, the sales skills applied in here, we would talk about dessert promotions and the benefits of bird’s nest to close the deal. The sale was good especially our new dessert: bird’s nest egg tarts that origin from Hong Kong.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I got the idea of bird’s nest desserts and juices were something novelty in order to promote bird’s nest to the new group of consumers. Undeniably, bird’s nest is premium goods and it is considered as luxury healthcare natural food that is not affordable and accepted by everyone. Besides, people tend to think that bird’s nest is product that require high entry level in term of money, popular among old and traditional people, and only consumed by Chinese. However, with the making of bird’s nest into the creative desserts and juices would be more approachable to the teens and be consumed by every races. The benefits and trials of bird’s nest could be reached to more consumers in the market. For example, parents tend to buy bird’s nest juices for their children because the prices of the juices are just slightly higher than Chatime and Starbuck but they are healthy.

Besides,  I had learned the inventory control system to ensure the stocks that sold to be recorded in the system. Hence, the amount of stocks sold and the money in the drawers were balanced. My sales skills improved significantly after a week of promoting the products in the kiosk. I knew what should I said to the different age group of customers in order to get their attention and interest about the products. The co-operation between Rose and I were the success. She could speak perfect Malay while I could speak perfect Cantonese that enabled us to target different races of customers. This strategy had made the sales for whole week skyrocketed.

In the near future, if I am going in the premium goods industry. I will try to have some products which are with lower entry level to attract consumers and gain the brand or product loyalty from them. Hence, if the product loyalty is there, the customers will think of going into next level by purchasing the higher end products from the company. For instance, BMW is using the this strategy by producing cheaper BMW cars which required lower entry level for the consumers like model 2 series, 3 series and X3.

Desserts that are eye-catching.
